Dunnabeck is a haven for wildlife and in particular the delightful Red Squirrel.

The garden, our woods, and the surrounding area are a haven for many species of wild life. You may see rabbits, stoats, weasels, badgers, roe deer and red deer. A buzzard frequently circles above the house and we have even seen a golden eagle, although not for a while.

The garden itself is visited by a variety of tits, finches, robins, nuthatches, siskins, and occasionally woodpeckers and pheasants, and waxwings passing through. There is usually a friendly heron in the nearby pond. Owls hoot in the surrounding woods.

We are members of the Grasmere Red Squirrel Group who are trying to maintain and increase the Red Squirrel population in the area. This means that it is much more likely that you will have the beautiful and cheeky Red Squirrels visiting you during your stay at Dunnabeck.

They are truly delightful and can make a rainy day in the lakes one of the best days of your holiday.
